PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
I would just like to acknowledge all of the time and effort that has been going into our corn fundraiser over the past few weeks. It has been very successful due to everyone helping out. Thank you to everyone who has been picking, packing, topping up the stall, selling it in the weekends and transporting it all around the place.
We had an inspiring Teacher only day at Onuku Marae on Friday. The focus of the day was Cultural Identity and we spent time learning about significant historical events of the local Akaroa area.
You will be aware of our strike day today. Tamariki across New Zealand need a quality education and we want to give them that. Unfortunately the funding for our schools is never enough for us to give us the time we would like to support all of our kids to thrive. This is why we need to do so much fundraising and it is this fundraising that enables us to employ extra staff for the Junior Room. Principals and teachers have considered at length offers from the government to settle our agreements. The offers did not meet our expectations, nor make sufficient steps towards the changes we need for our children to succeed.

We are looking forward to going to Hanmer tomorrow to spend the day at the Hanmer Thermal Pools. Thanks to all those taking transport and to Rachel for organising this fun day out.
Next week we have the Scholastic Book Fair and Book Week and we are looking forward to you being part of this.
